Media quality. What are you burning on?

I would expect an older player to give problems. It was probably made before
the current DVDR's you are using.

Some DVD players are fussy.

How are you able to burn 16x dvdvr at 12x when your burner is 8x? There are
many arguments over the optimum speed to burn, I use 8x. Be aware that 16x
DVDR are designed to be burnt at that speed, not 1x or 2x.
