Nice link, Don - thanks.
Of course, should one dare to bring this up in a "mac-centric" forum (of
which there are entirely too many infesting the net and/or web), the Cult
Chorus would be only too quick to sing the praises of Steve God (spelled
Jobs) and remind everybody that since HE knows best, this is done with the
interests of the consumer first-and-foremost. Why, it's simply preposterous
to believe that (cr)Apple would do anything in accordance with, oh...say...
a corporate agenda?
I can understand enjoyment of a "product", but what I will *never*
understand is the type of slavish devotion-bordering-on-brainwashed
attitude that the Macolytes in the Church of Apple demonstrate at every
opportunity. The irony of the situation, to me, is that the famous Apple
"1984 commercial" has itself become the perfect example of George Orwell's
"doublespeak" concept.
Twenty-two years and counting later... some people still don't "get it."
Here's a free clue: There is no such thing as a philanthropic, altruistic
Corporation. Not even with the establishment of The Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation.... trust me, that just smells of tax exemption and other
accountant book-cookery. Gates and Jobs are pretty much peers in that
regard - from what I've read, both have massive egos which *require* they
come first. In everything.
I also believe that either would sell the remains of their dead grandmother
as fertilizer if they thought they could make a buck on it. But, hey...
that could just be my thinking. ;^{)
