I don't want to speak for Bill but I think the bottom line comes down
to this:

1) Bill is skeptical (to say the least) because he does not know who
you really are and since you don't make it public, he questions your
statements. I, of course do, because you have been kind enough to do
business with us and I am not going to publish your information. I
take you at your word as to what you've done even if I disagree with
the way you have extrapolated the experience to that of Apple users as
a whole.

2) I do not question that you had a bad experience with your Apple
setup. If I had sold you the systems your experience would have been
different. Regardless it REALLY isn't the norm. I have never once
sold a Final Cut setup, or for that matter a Mac-based Avid or Pro
Tools rig that someone came back and said "This thing isn't working."
We've had an instance of bad RAM and one or two other minor
difficulties. Then there was one guy who had been using a Casablanca
and bought an iMac and Final Cut and said his video was dropping
frames. Turned out his camcorder was bought in a pawn shop and the
inside of the machines smelled like smoke. But hey, I didn't want to
leave him out.

I'm not going to question or challenge your experience any further;
however where I disagree with you as to the big picture I will continue
to relate what I experience personally and more importantly, in the
marketplace as a whole.

I don't think I'm inside the Apple box. I simply haven't had, nor have
any of our Apple customers had, nor had anyone previously mentioned to
me about their Apple experience anything remotely resembling what you
describe. In fact, more than once I have been sitting at a bar talking
to a complete stranger who learns what I do and starts talking about
how he got his new Dell (or whatever) and when he hooked up his
printer, yadda yadda yadda, the drivers wouldn't work and blah blah
blah - like something out of an Apple ad - except it's real. If that
makes me inside the Apple box, well the hell with it, I'm guilty.

You know my situation - you know what my dealings with Apple are like
and I'd sure as heck make more money custom-building Windows-based
systems. I've talked to dealers who won't carry Apple unless you hold
their feet to the fire and it ain't about problems - it's about margin.
So when I speak from inside this proverbial box, it's not because I'm
trying to sell something. It's because I'm honest about not just MY
experience but what I've been seeing and hearing for 20 years.

Anyhoo, we're beating a dead horse. I'm going to say "uncle" at this
point. The discussion was worthy and I appreciate your time and
feedback as opposed to the drivel of my favorite newgroup troll, may he
take his sabbatical in peace.
