Thank you Gene E. Bloch. If there is disagreement it's simply my
frustration and quick typing late at night (when things tend to run
together - not only on the screen but in my mind :o) but the facts are real
the situation was disasterously true and nearly cost us our business with NO
solution from Apple or Macintosh. They both gave up on us and eventually
hung up during one of our tech support calls which prompted us to take
action on our own. We apparently had a motherboard problem and an issue
with FCP, neither of which Apple or Mac could conceive or fix. Then to top
it all off, they wouldn't pay for the repair because we took the unit to an
authorized apple repair station and not an authorized apple warranty
station. To say the least we were and still are upset over the matter, let
alone when we got our Windows/PC/Avid solution, just like Avid said, it
worked - and - like avid said the one machine could handle the work of the
two g5's.
Then we got another station and now we just this week picked up the third
machine, not because of shortcomings on machine 1 but conversely because of
that much more work (and some of that work from tv stations or shops who
can't live with long render times and are strapped with a quick turnaround)
and thus they come to us for help.
There are about half a dozen good solid reaons for the switch that go beyond
just the mess apple/mac put us through but we avoid that in all this
discussion because our main objective in here is to help people get exposed
to the fact that apple/mac solutions are not necessarily the BEST on the
planet as all apple/mac people seem to shout loud especially sales people
but that apple/mac solutions sometimes have problems that are serious and
that their tech support gives up quick and walks away completely leaving you
with the bag in your hand.
