I have a remote zoom control for my camcorder but even at the slowest
setting, it is still too fast in some situation.

Is there any LANC remote that would allow zooming slower than the camera's
slowest zoom speed?

Perhaps this could be done by pulsing the zoom signal ( zoom, pause, zoom,
pause, ...) at a frequency high enough to appear smooth?
