Neil, thanks for your input, I do appreciate it. You're right, the
level of experience that I articulated suggests I might be better off
using consumer level tools. But that's because I probably understated
my capabilities. I'm a published software developer who builds all his
own OC'd PCs, etc., and so although I'm rank noobie at *video
production*, I can generally figure out complex software tools and put
their esoteric features to use. If I know where to start and get a good
mental model of what's involved. This NG and some good supplementary
resources are getting me there.

Yeah I ripped all my audio from CDs using MP10's WMA Lossless format.
Is there a better way to do this to preserve quality in a manageable
format? I was considering getting Adobe Audition, anyone in this NG
have thoughts or recommendations on that choice? It would certainly
integrate better with the tools that I'm using, but I thought WMA
lossless format would be sufficient for my limited purposes. But hell,
I'm very open to getting Audition. Hell, I should have just bought
Production Studio to begin with, I'm getting all the components
piecemeal lol!

I don't really understand codecs or what you mean by "he's going to be
using WM codecs as part of the tool chain". Cost isn't a big factor, I
just want to be able to use industry standard tools that make life easy
and compatible and get the job done with a high level of accuracy,
control and quality. Would it make any difference if I were using
Audition, will that rip songs from CDs? Do I care that I've got "WM
codecs" in the tool chain?
