There is a possible audio analogy.
Imagine recording of an orchestra with a couple
very narrow notch filters, such that you only really
hear the "pure" tone (no harmonics)of a C above C,
and the F above that. the rest may be there but it is
way down in the noise.
What can you do to reconstruct the full orchestra?
I don't think it is very likely.
There were some really nice spectrum charts offered.
If you look through them you will find several flavors
of sodium vapor lamps. Some have slightly better
color rendering, but they probably sacrifice efficiency.
