and probably more with Avid than FCP by and large. you might want to
consider using windows/pc just to give yourselves a more open door policy
with regard to support groups, local helps and assistance. we had a very
bad experience with apple/mac's with regard to isolation and lonliness when
our mac had a motherboard problem and couldn't get it resolved only to find
that the only real help was almost 100 miles away. OTOH when we swtiched to
PC we have at least two strong geeks withiin 20 mile radius and probably
100's in that same 100 mile radius as the fomer Apple/Mac circle.
Just our 2 cents to help you think. BTW, we chose Avid because of their
industry acceptability and universal timeline file adaptation wherein we can
drop just about anything on the timeline and it works. moreover our render
times are cut to about 1/2 of what they were when we had FCP.

Vegas has become very popular among higher-end independent
videographers. I would call it a cult-like following including some
very respected industry professionals. However, it still trails FCS by
leaps and bounds and has never made inroads into facilities who
generally stick with FCS or Avid.
It's really a matter of comparing everything feature-for-feature but
overall, the advantage of a Mac is going to be a richer feature set for
the money, greater pool of available support from a much larger
installed user base and in general, a lower rate of repairs (based on
annual statistics). You probably get a lot more bang for the buck but
I haven't heard anyone say anything negative about Vegas.
