Consumer camcorders typically have one (or maybe two)
different zoom speeds. But professional lenses use true
analog servos which allow you to control the speed of the
zoom from too slow to notice, to fast enough to make you
sick. This is mostly the function of how the lens control
mechanism/circuits were designed.
There are some 3rd party lens controls which give you a
bit more analog control over the zoom/focus speeds on
consumer camcorders. For example www.varizoom.com
Whether it is worth buying a zoom control that may cost
as much as the camera is a different matter.
