Different studios, different priorities. Political Correctness isn't
the only criterion at play. Warner Bros. (which owns GONE WITH THE
WIND) doesn't have the obsession of a squeaky-clean, everybody's friend
image that Disney has. Warner is willing to invite controversy,
while Disney is not.
There's also the fact that GONE WITH THE WIND is the highest-grossing
movie ever made (inflation adjusted). SONG OF THE SOUTH isn't even
close.
Anyway, more to the point, I consider the "Tiger Lily" sequence in
PETER PAN to be as Politically Incorrect as anything in SONG OF THE
SOUTH, and Disney has no qualms about releasing PETER PAN. But then,
the Native American anti-defamation crowd isn't as loud or as vocal
as the African-American one.
