Agreed. It's long overdue for companies to follow a model similar
to MythTV, WinMCE or the various MP3 headends out there and a tiny diskless
satellite player device serviced by some centralized media server.

They could get creative about it and even do things like use coax
for the bulk transport. This is just audio and video we're talking about here.

The headends could make short simple requests over the wifi and you
could have a channel dedicated to each micro-reciever. They could even encrypt
it if they wanted to so long as the thin clients were available.

Sure, I could use iTunes even under Linux. However, I have |||
better things to do with my time than deal with how iTunes doesn't / | \
want to play nicely with everyone else's data (namely mine). I'd
rather create a DVD using those Linux apps we're told don't exist.
