Store some data on an external hard drive and also on a DVD. Then
shake both the drive and the DVD violently above your head. Then
push both off a 8 ft high shelf onto a hard floor. Now try to access
your data from the drive and from the DVD.
Hard drive convenience is nice. But data backups have to move
off site. Moving a hard drive from place to place is risky and
because the drive can store so much data, doubly risky. Keep
data sets small, and use removable media for backup if possible.
Alternatively, stream the data securely over the internet to the
backup location (which may be an online service).
