There have been some good documentaries on Superman on TV lately.
One mentioned that they didn't get into superman fighting nazis much
inside the comic books back in WWII because they didn't want to
demean the real contribution of the soldiers fighting over seas with
bullshit fantasy. They did show Superman doing all kinds of
patriotic fighting action on the covers of the books.

As to the current movie, it looked too much like a rehash of the
first movie and the current tv series. No imagination.

And what a lame looking superman. No steroids I guess ;)
