I'm looking to capture a VHS tape of an old (70's) concert that's probably a
3rd or 4th generation copy and likely from a less than pristine source.
I notice one of my VCR's - a newer, though certainly not top of the line
4-head unit - handles it better than another older, though more expensive
2-head unit. The first unit clearly handles tracking better, with less
prominent dropouts and less overall "glitchiness" in the picture and sound.
So, I'm looking for suggestions of particular consumer level
brands/models/lines I should look for that you feel did a better job than
most of playing shaky video for subsequent cleanup. Even if it's a "so and
so made this one model in '92 that they only made for a year and there's
never been another one like it" kind of thing.
Also, as a matter of curiosity, how would a pro restoration shop do it? I'm
guessing as always seems to be the case, there's some mega-bucks unit that
simply does things consumer units don't.
