Recently I saw a TV commercail for a new release and it was
available on DVD and Blu-Ray. Just the name alone makes it seem
different to a consumer than DVD and HD-DVD. The latter doesn't
differentiate that much to an average consumer.

That's just my POV from a marketing standpoint.
