I've been watching this somewhat older, Canadian import program and
its quite good. Its similar to "Law & Order," but far more realistic and
HUMAN in ways I find endearing. The characters are very real and
organic, as opposed to NY-slick. The writing is intelligent above the
norm and the conflicts real without feeling too sensationalistic or
stylized. Forensics are part of it, but the real winning aspect is the
dialogue, which is much like you or I might bandy about as we toddled
through this or that.

Example: The main detective, feeling quite exasperated, semi-hollers
at his partner on the street about cameras being mounted everywhere,
saying "Pretty soon, you won't even feel free to scratch your ASS on the
street, much less have an honest argument with a friend or slapping a
hump, for fear of being dragged into court! Its gonna warp everything we
work for every day. The whole thing stinks and its gonna hurt more than
help when the dust settles."

Now THAT'S what I look for in any drama, that nitty-gritty of real
people, trying to cope and make the grade. There are also great twists
and smart-assed dialogue that perks my ears up. The team corners some
creeps at a speed kitchen in a house in the country and as they prepare
to approach, the thing blows up big-time. As pieces of the house fall
around them, one guy says "Well, there go a few sets of fingerprints we
won't have to take now." Ooooeerrrr....

Its a low-key yet very smart show and highly recommended. Look for it
in odd slots, like early Sunday morning on the WB or as 2 a.m. filler
you have to record. If you like it at all, you'll probably like it a
lot. A quality venture that helps justify having a $#@! TV.
