One solution
could be getting yourselves a used DVCAM Sony DSR 11 (New they were
$1600 at B&H)
You could: simply play back all your field tapes on the 11 which READS
Timecode that was recorded --IF IT WAS RECORDED in the field
OR:
do a firewire to firewire digital copy from a DV source deck
to the DSR11 TO CREATE NEW TIMECODE and either compile 2-3 tapes onto a
3Hr dvcam tape, or do a 1-to-1 copy
with the character generator on the 11 switched on ---- while
simultaneously recording a vhs or a DVD that had the "TC window" on it
The DSR 11 will show original TC recorded in the field onto the tape
or it will record new timecode reset each tape change...
I don't think it can preset timecode however -- so your dubber / or
client will have to keep track of each tape change
