Media Player Classic is probably the best DirectShow based
player there is.
If you right click on the screen and select from "File" you
will have a number of options for selecting material to play
including two ways to play an authored DVD both with
functional menus if you want. There are also various ways
to find files to play and it can sometimes connect to a capture
or TV card.
