Yeah. "any other ???Etc....?".

"Artist" is whomever is responsible for what you're listening to... it
could be the singer, or the accomplished musicians providing the aural
landscape, or the producer who is adept at spinning gold from dross, or the
celebrity-image behind the name of the person who lays claim to actually
being "an artist".
When it comes to mp3-file "tags", Artist is <I think>, generally credited
to the most popular choice.
Of course, the beauty of "tag editors" is that I can tidy up other people's
misconceptions about music, if only to have them conform to MY
conceptions... which may or may not be correct.
Although, "last name first, first name last", when it comes to Artist file
naming conventions, might actually make sense (from a DB perspective), but
I'm not about to "switch horses mid-stream" as it were. To each his/her
own... and, uhhh... everybody else... adapt?
