People often times claim that being on television makes you
look heavier than you really are. I'm not sure I buy it and think
it is more of an excuse for the vain.
There could be a tiny bit of truth to it though. If you think about
what a face looks like when you shoot really close with a very
wide lens, it does make people look skinnier with a long nose.
So a long lens at a greater distance would be the opposite.
Taking it a little further, think of a taking a picture of a sphere.
Perhaps a scribble on a napkin would help to visualize here.
If you were very close you would only see some of the front
of the sphere, but if you were further back, you would see
more of the sphere's surface.
Pretty flimsy.
