I think you are asking about "Symbol Rate", "Vpid", "Apid", etc.
http://www.coolstf.com/mpeg/#srfec is the source that I use when I need
to refresh my memory as to the meanings of these terms.
One transponder can carry a number of different channels at the same
time. So can terrestial broadcast digital signals. My local over-the-air
PBS affilate digital channel carries 3 different channels.... PBS, PBS
Kids, PBS HDTV. My local digital CBS affiliate carries 2 channels and my
Local digital ABC affilate carries 3 different channels.
