I haven't really thought about it but as you can record, say, from
channels on SKY which won't allow you to record to dvd then I guess
you would have to say VHS is analogue. While messing with google
though I find mention of D-VHS, a digital format VHS

Wikipedia says the D in D-VHS stands for Data, but if you type digital
VHS into google there are loads of links with D-VHS as digital, the
one below giving an overview and also gently mentioning that, indeed,
VHS was analogue
