That, or recompress it so it will fit on a single-layer DVD, which is
what I usually end up doing. Roxio's Toast can do this as part of the
burning process, and the excellent DVD2One will do it with more options
on what to leave out, so you can minimize the amount of compression.
For example, by leaving out the other languages from the audio, skipping
the Dolby soundtrack when you have DTS equipment [or vice versa], and
skipping the extra features, you can often strip down the disc so little
or no recompression is needed, and thus the quality doesn't suffer at
all. DVD2one can do all of this:

Very common. It's one of the many things that makes DVD so much more
convenient than laserdiscs, which had to be flipped over.

Stamped discs? They'll all read them. Dual- or Double-layer burned
discs? It's a real crapshoot right now, I'm afraid. I'm sticking with
single-layer discs for now.
