It's not likely the fault of your P2P client software. I recently had
sound problems with a UK TV show I downloaded through eMule. Here's
the response I got. I downloaded the program suggested in that
response and now the sound problems disappeared. ofcourse, the file
will still have problems when run on any PC that doesn't have that
program installed.

Generally, when I have sound problems, I can normally clear them up by
1st determining whether it's a player problem. In the course of my
PC's life, I've managed to install several players - besides WMP, I've
also got RP, WinAMP and the player that comes with Shareazza. Problems
with one player are not always consistent in others. If there's a
sound problem, I would first try and determine what kind of sound codec
was used in the audio part of the file - for that I use "G-Spot"
(http://www.headbands.com/gspot/). G-spot also contains a player
(small screen, but it also helps determine whether the file is a
genuine media file).

When G-Spot indicates that there's a sound file, but none of the
players can "hear" it, I use a program called VirtualDub to make a .wav
file of the entire soundtrack for that file and try playing that on
WMP. If that works, I can then use TMPGenc
(http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0oGkiggDdFEYmEA3ypXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE2ZG5laWVmBGNvbG8DdwRsA1dTMQRwb3MDMQRzZWMDc3IEdnRpZANGNzg5Xzk1/SIG=11bcaccu2/EXP=1154637472/**http%3a//www.tmpgenc.net/)
to create an MPG file using the original .avi as source for the video
but the extracted .wav as the source for the sound.

Last week was the first time I had a problem that couldn't be solved
with TMPGenc, VirtualDub or (immediately) with G-Spot. Instead, I
simply followed the suggestion to install the AC program, and without
having to do more, the downloaded media file played normally - sound
and all.
