Susan, many thanks! That's exactly the kind of step-by-step explanation

Yes, I'm working with DV AVI's in Premiere, rendering them there and
then Encoding to an mpg file which I then import into Encore for the
authoring. I think AVI is one of the output options I have from the
Premiere Encoding dialog, but the reason I produced MPGs was because I
recall reading that only MPGs imported into Encore would allow me to
import my project with chapter stops. I don't know if this is true nor
do I fully understand all the implications of that statement, I just
thought it would be best to export to mpg. I'll try the AVI and
transcode in Encore approach.

Thanks again, and please feel free to continue elaborating on any of
this if you have the time and the inclination. I'm a rank noobie to all
this, but I learn fast once I'm exposed to some understanding.
