Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I solved my problem by simply
using one of the other effects that actually works. The Tracking Matte
Key effect is bugged and doesn't work reliably, but the Image Matte Key
effect works fine. With that function, all I needed to do was create a
file with the right areas black'ed and white'ed (representing,
respectively, opaque and transparent fields) and then link to that
matte file in the Effects Control panel. Worked like a charm.
I've learned a lot from the discussion, however, so thanks for the
suggestions. Susan, if you're still reading this, I tried your
suggestion for my synch problem by rendering to an .avi file and then
importing that into Encore and Transcoding there (as part of my Build
process). Although the synch is much better, it's still off. It's
subtle and probably not noticable to most folks (particularly if
transitions are used) but in this one video I am using no transitions
and the onscreen video is cued instantly to changes in the audio track,
and although it synchs up perfectly in Premier Pro and in the resulting
..avi file, when it's imported and transcoded via Encore the synch lags
a little. I'm considering this an Encore bug until I learn otherwise.
Thanks again,
