Words and terms' meanings evolve/mutate over time[1]... certainly
you refer to the origin of the term, but I think the fact is that by
now "political correctness" can be and is practiced by both sides of
the U.S. political divide. Saying _today_ that only leftists can
practice political correctness is akin to saying that only whites
can be racist.
1: Just consider the "We'll have a gay old time!" in the
Flintstones' theme song.
