Another insight: I am using Encore to encode these discs, and I notice
that in the Automatic setting it tries to fill up the entire disc,
rather than pick a sane bitrate and fill not all the way to the outside
rim. I wonder if that is a problem, since that is one of the recent
changes in our procedures.

How many out there using Encore, and do you use the Automatic bitrate
or select your own? Have you noticed anything for or against the Auto
setting?
