A DVD doesn't have to have scratches to have errors. It sounds like the disk
is knackered. Or, your Sony can't read it properly - see above.
Last option - use http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm DVD Fab Decrypter.
Burn Video files with IMGBurn or Nero.
