I use verify all the time. Any batch of disks may have a few bad
ones, and this is one way to detect them sooner rather than later.

Also, I accidentally bought a spindle of 8x CMC Magnetics DVDRs (I
don't recall the brand name - I usually use TY), and found that they
failed compare 3-4 out of 10 burns at 8x, and always passed at 4x.

Verifying was very helpful in identifying these potential problem
areas.
