The Panasonic has two 24 progressive pulldown modes, one of which gives the
"film look" for use in video mode but is not good for transfer to film, and
the other which looks pretty rough as video but can be transferred directly
to film without the need for creating composite frames.
The Sony Z-1 does not have the pulldown for direct transfer to film, but has
a pseudo-24 frame mode which is not bad. In addition the Sony shoots HDV,
and in SD is transferrable between NTSC and PAL. If you look at the Panny
you also owe it to yourself to have a serious look at the Sony, which is
becoming the camera of choice in my part of the world (Tokyo) for commercial
and news shoots using a small camera. I've used it and it feels quite good,
although manual iris control is difficult and its low-light sensitivity is
not quite up to non-HDV cams.
