Thanks for the tips. I'll print this out for future reference.

Sorry I can't help with the timecode issue. That's far beyond my knowledge.

I use both a PC and a Mac (and Linux) depending on the work I need to
do. I simply wanted to use Windows Movie Maker to clip out the parts I
don't want, then save as an AVI for archiving. But WMM won't open the
VOB/MPG file... I'll look for the software you used. Thanks again...
