I don't believe so, as macrovision normally will appear as the picture
varying from light to dark and back again.

My guess is the OP has a TV without AV inputs (hence the comment about
perhaps having to get a modulator), so I would assume the VCR is being
used as one. In most cases I have tried, the VCR will pass the signal
through without problems normally associated with macrovision, unless he
tries to record.

I suggest he double-checks all connections.
