My guess would be that the BBC missed it out from in between 'Tinker' 
and 'Smiley's' for two, possibly three reasons. 
 
- the complexity of the plot, length of the novel. Scriptwriters 
nightmare, I should think. 
- the expense of location shooting or complex sets (lots of it occurs 
in the far east) 
- it features Smiley, but in a rather incidental role. Would Guiness 
have taken it on?
