It can "IF" it's a good quality SVHS vcr , and has a decent Y/C section
(S-video out).
VHS and SVHS record the video onto tape in the same way, just at a higher
bandwidth. The chrominance and luminance is stored seperate on tape. So
keeping the video from tape, output to tv all using a Y/C (S-video) connection
throughout can under the right circumstances look better than using composite.
The only time i have seen it look worse is when a subpar SVHS deck was used
compared to a higher quality VHS deck.
The TV has a big role to play in this too. A crappy source like a cable box
via SVIDEO can look worse than using a composite connection to some TV's since
many TV's have decent comb filters in them to handle the composite signal and
so it may appear cleaner than the subpar s-video output from a cheap SVHS VCR
or cable box.
