I want to have my non learning TV remote, control at least the basic
functions of the Oppo 971 DVD player. But Oppo is not listed as one of the
pre-programmed devices on the Mitsubishi remote (2007 TV).

Is there another manufacturer or model that can be programmed into the TV
remote from its list that might at least provide the basic control over the
Oppo?
