He would have to do a bit of research into what operating system the DVD
recorder uses - I would check out the forums. In the case of the Topfield
community (PVRt with 120gig and higher hd) many users mod the unit to make a
removable caddy arrangement rather than use the USB digital link to the
computer as the implementation of USB2 in the Topfield is a bit slow takes
around 7 minutes per gig and a typically SD transmission one hour is about
3.5 gigs at 720 x 576) There are drivers that allow the PC to recognise the
Topfield hard disk. Some systems use Linux. Anyway it's the way to go
because you keep everything in the digital domain. I'll be getting a DVD
recorder shortly and the first thing I will do is get the friggin hard disk
out of the box.
