 I was going to suggest you check the user manual for any options to
 break the recording up into chapters. You could then save the chapters
 individually to dvd .  Since you have said you tried that and could not
 find an option I am out of ideas.
 
 Installing the drive in a PC has some problems, but might be possible
 if its an ide drive.
