Can anyone help me identify the white enamel cross military decoration
or medal that is worn by Franco Nero in Sergio Corbucci's "The
Mercenary" aka "A Professional Gun"?

Have tried endless google searches to no avail, and trying to enlarge
the item from DVD only shows the decoration as a white enamel Maltese
cross with a small gold crown apove it. In the centre of the cross is a
circle which is separated into quarters, opposing quarters being red
and white. There is additional gold detail within the white quarters,
but I cannot make this out.

I presume it is a Polish military decoration of some kind as the
character he plays is that of a Polish ex-army officer. have checked
with Polish military decoration/medal sites, and the closest I've come
to it is the "restytuta" cross, which would not have been around at the
period the movie is portraying.

Any help gratefully accepted.
