Hollywood has always been very welcome to develop their own distribution
technology and protect their content to the hilt. There has never been
any obstacle to them doing this. And consumers are always free to
choose whether they want to buy dedicated players for these movies or not.
Why don't they do it? They know very well that they would make less
profit. They would have to take the financial risks of attempting to
establish the new technology, win broad consumer acceptance, and then
realize the benefits of mass production.
They prefer to hijack the medium that is already preferred by consumers.
Do you feel their elbows in your face as they charge to front of this
wave? Consumers have a perfect right to say, distribute your movies on
the medium I already use, or I will not buy it.
