I've just picked up a JVC DVD/VCR DR-MX1S combo recorder to replace my VCR.
Previously on my VCR I'd been able to record from my Sony Freeview VTX-D800U
receiver and preview the Freeview channel on the TV. The Freeview receiver
was channel E2 on the VCR.

Now I can find no way to record the channel on Freeview through the DVD
combo. Switching on the Freeview receiver overrides whatever is playing via
the DVD combo so I cannnot preview what the DVD combo will record.

Connections are same as through the VCR. Scart lead from DVD combo to
Freeview receiver to TV.

Any suggestions.
