Hi .

I've had a Pioneer Elite DVD Player (DV-47Ai) for a few years with
no problems.

Recently the DVD's were making noise while spinning - sometimes getting
caught when loading (about half way through the load), spinning slowly,
etc - which of course did not produce any video. Checking the DVD's I
noticed dozens of circular grooves, no doubt caused by the DVD not
spinning freely and rubbing against something internally. I tried
numerous DVD's and same problem.

Though I know next to nothing about repairing these - sometimes just
opening the case - one can immediately see the problem and fix it
easily. In this case, threre was a plastic circular object (about the
size of a half dollar) which I assume would fit in the hole in the DVD
while it would spin. I believe I corrected that problem - put a DVD in
- did the load and unload dozens if times and - smooth as silk. I
thought I was a genius. Little did I know...

After hooking the DVD player back to my receiever - with the DVD turned
off - I turned it on - and tapped the button to "Open" (which it did
very smoothly and silently) putting in a new DVD - Then the following
events occurred:

1) Once the Disk tray closes with the DVD in it - the Display flashes
"Closed"
2) The Display then flashes "Loading"
3) Then on the display it looks like: 0 0 0.00
4) Above the first 0 on the left the display says "title" - Above the
2nd 0 displays CHP - and the next 3 (0.00) has no display dicator.
5) - Now the problem - The discs go into nicely - appears to load ok -
but the "spinning mechanism" stopped working completely. It previously
did work when the disks were making noises and probably not being
inserted in correctly - but somehow when I corrected the open/close
issue - I must have done something to cause the "spinning" to cease
working.

Any idea on what happened - and how I can fix this would be so helpful.
I really don't want to buy another DVD player now - as I want to wait
until the BlueRay/HD battle settles down and the HiDef Players come
down in price.

Thanks so much in advance
Rick
