Can anyone help with an After Effects problem, please?

I'm using 6.5 and getting great results with it, however I really want
to produce 16bit sequences rather than 8bit ones but for some reason
whenever I try to export a 16bit AVI file it's visually corrupted.
Exporting 8bit AVIs cause no problems at all, but not 16bit.

I've gone through all the help files and the manual but can't find what
I'm doing wrong. Export it as 16bit and the image is only 1/4 the size
it should be (the image is zoomed in, rather than physically smaller)
and looks like it's ultra-low res. The same's true if I export a QT
format, too.

Can anyone offer any help?

Failing that, can anyone recommend somewhere else to ask the question?
