It just occurred to me that the DVB receiver/decoder (the "Freeview
box") might have (and _should_ have) a "monitor" button of some sort
that allows monitoring the signal from the secondary SCART socket. For
example, Nokia 150 T (a DVB-T set-top box with two SCART sockets) uses
the numeric button "0" on the remote for this.

If your DVB STB has a similar "monitor" functionality, in one form or
the other, maybe you could make it work even with the original
connection scheme. (Things would surely be simpler that way.)
