Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of AIRPLANE! "DON'T CALL ME SHIRLEY!"
EDITION, ALMOST NORMAL, BAD NEWS BEARS, THE BAXTER, BOMB THE SYSTEM,
CINDERELLA MAN, DRACULA A.D. 1972, GILMORE GIRLS: THE COMPLETE FIFTH
SEASON, MARTIN AND ORLOFF, THE PRODUCERS: DELUXE EDITION, SAINT RALPH,
and SUZE ORMAN FOR THE YOUNG, FABULOUS AND BROKE:

AIRPLANE! "DON'T CALL ME SHIRLEY!" EDITION (reviewed by Dennis Prince,
overall score 94/100):
"The film works not so much because of its humorous antics but
because of the unflinching deadpan delivery by Hollywood veterans
like Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Leslie Nielsen, and Howard Jarvis.
Robert Hays, in his first leading role, underplays his role with
precision as he deflects each and every verbal and visual volley
tossed his way. Julie Hagerty, also in her first leading role, does
likewise but with the added task of dutifully re-inflating Otto via
his manual inflation tube."

ALMOST NORMAL (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 80/100):
"It certainly could have used some better production values, but it
ought to at least make you think about what it means to be gay. It's not
an accomplished film, but it is an interesting one."

BAD NEWS BEARS (reviewed by Brendan Babish, overall score 81/100):
"I don't think there has ever been this much swearing in a PG-13 movie
before. Not that there's anything wrong with that. That is, unless you
are a champion of good taste and politically correct humor."

THE BAXTER (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 80/100):
"The premise of the film is great. Basically, it's a romantic comedy
told from the loser's side of other romantic comedies. We see the story
of the guy who is left at the altar while his dream girl runs off to be
with her dream guy. The jokes relating to this twist are where the
brilliance comes in."

BOMB THE SYSTEM (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall score 85/100):
"Imagine the agony of having your best work painted over almost as fast
as you can create it, again and again...not only for the artists, but
for the cops as well. There is an element of romantic pointlessness to
the whole affair, and the protagonists know it."

CINDERELLA MAN (reviewed by Ryan Keefer, overall score 94/100):
"With any luck, Crowe, Zellweger and Giamatti will all be nominated for
their performances (can we give Giamatti the Supporting Actor Oscar
already?), as well as Howard for his direction."

DRACULA A.D. 1972 (reviewed by Dennis Prince, overall score 87/100):
"Some adore the decade of the Seventies, others abhor it. Interestingly,
even enthusiasts who've completely acclimatized themselves to the
throwback generation of mini-skirts and mood rings find themselves
cringing when exposed to Britain's take on the whole paisley and
polyester affair (and if you thought the Austin Powers production design
was rather exaggerated, think again)."

GILMORE GIRLS: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON (reviewed by Kerry Birmingham,
overall score 93/100):
"If, like me, you lack a second X chromosome and are initially unable to
justify watching a show where the commercials aired during it are mainly
for things biologically impossible for you to use, there's an easy way
around this. Watch one episode under the pretense that you're in it for
the pretty girls; if you like it, watch the second under the pretense
that the dialogue is kind of funny. If by week three you're not saying
things like, 'I can't believe what Miss Patty said to Lorelai in Doose's
Market!' then...well, I'm sure According to Jim is on somewhere..."

MARTIN AND ORLOFF (reviewed by Chris Claro, overall score 80/100):
"The audience has to be in on the joke and laughing with the filmmakers.
If that respect is missing and if the film's creators feel superior to
the audience, it will show on screen. And show it does, in spades, in
the hateful Martin and Orloff."

THE PRODUCERS: DELUXE EDITION (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall
score 96/100):
"The only thing on this disc that has never been previously released is
a teaser trailer for the big screen adaptation of the musical version of
this film, based on the successful 2001 Broadway production starring
Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. It's a trailer -- no discussion of
this new production. It's something you could easily download on
hundreds of sites. Why bother? Oh, right. Synergy, synergy, synergy."

SAINT RALPH (reviewed by Brendan Babish, overall score 72/100):
"Within the film's first five minutes Ralph, our hero, is shown auto-
eroticizing himself with a lawn mower. In a movie that is self-described
as 'a heart-warming story about chasing miracles!' it is quite a relief
to come across a bit of the ribald."

SUZE ORMAN FOR THE YOUNG, FABULOUS AND BROKE (reviewed by Brett Cullum,
overall score 85/100):
"Of course this is an 85-minute special which aired on PBS. It is
simple, and really only serves as an introduction to her
philosophies. You will find her books fleshed out with more intricate
advice, but this is interesting stuff for people who haven't a clue
about where to begin."
