Apology accepted, Richard, and no harm done 0:). I was unaware of earlier
publicity concerning this product, and thought others might find it
interesting and unique, as I did. Particularly if video production gets
involved in capturing fleeting events in sports, science, etc.
In the world of high speed data acquisition video, cameras of this type are
not rare. MCT's camera, as an example, does 500 million frames per second
and high resolutions, for example in a car crash test facility I helped
design. http://www.mctcameras.com/ Oakley/Red only claims to do 12 megapixel
frames at 60 frames per second, so the Oakley design is really not pushing
the state of the art at all in speed or in resolution.
Oakley's modular packaging concept is what appealed to me especially, making
a small and portable camera / recorder concept achievable. Time will tell
whether it comes to market at all.
