Deutsche Welle is offering free classical music mp3 downloads from
second-string (but good) German orchestras on their web site. Funny
thing, though: When I try to play them using Windows Media Player, I get
the following message:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support
the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress
the file."
However, these files play just fine using either itunes or the Goldwave
Audio Editor, and mp3tagtools show nothing funny about the tags. What
is going on here? The files were downloaded using wget, not itunes, so
that Apple had no opportunity to play with the file and make it Apple-only.
Do mp3 files ever include any kind of DRM?
