Apple's education discounts are available to anyone registered at an
educational institution that they recognize. There's no "cheating" about
it. They set the standards.

A "scam" would be if you were to log on to Apple's web site and get an
education discount when you weren't a registered student.

Configuring a system? Not hard at all. Ordering a system? Even easier.
Upgrading that system? Very easy so long as you can read some very
simple instructions (with pictures) and have (or buy) a few simple
things like, oh, a Phillips head screwdriver. Installing software? RTFM
and follow the instructions. Upgrading software? RTFM and follow the
instructions.

If you're a video editor with a deadline then you really should have
planned things out and learned your software. Waiting until the last
minute to try and figure something out is just plain stupid.

Can you offer the same system (Apple MacPro/FCP Studio) for $5K or less?
Let's see the numbers. Please.

Really? Numbers please. If you're an Apple Pro Reseller it shouldn't be
hard for you to get them.
