Okay you win. I'll sell you the same system for $5000.
Gary is not a proponent of the Mac platform but other than that he
makes a number of very good points. One may not be "cheating" by
registering as a student; it's more the equivalent of a tax loophole -
except in this case, cavernous.
MOST video editors stand to benefit from having any measure of
professional support and if they have a crisis it doesn't mean they
don't know they're software or didn't read the manual. I participate
in newsgroups with advanced Avid and Final Cut editors (not "informed
consumers" who still use the groups and dealer tech support for issues
that come up and believe me, there are plenty of them.
Editors are not necessarily systems integrators and the higher and more
varied the work the more bumps in the road. It's good that you have
all the answers so you'll never need any support - then you can buy
from Apple Education where you won't get any and that will be fine.
For that matter, why not just go into the mall and ask the guys at the
Apple store about which codec works best for HDV and how they recommend
doing downcoverts. I know you already know everything but it might be
fun.
Cheers,
Craig
