I like having a region-free player (one that can also do a couple
other tricks, under $100). But I also want to have a "real" player.
From what I've seen, the "real" players -- say, a Sony -- will have
nicer remote controls and nicer interfaces.
The region-free players, and other players that do things Hollywood
wouldn't want you doing, seem a little more... "hacky?" Some funny
oddities on the remote control maybe, or some less appealing displays
in the menus, etc.
Right now, I'm pretty darn happy with my Philips DVP5960 (HDMI, 1080i
Upscaling, DivX Ultra, USB direct, and easily made region-free with a
few clicks of the remote control).
